Prior to joining the HK Phil in 2001, Rong served as Principal Bassist of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and as Assistant Principal Bass at the Pacific Music Festival in Japan. Passionate in music education, Rong has been teaching at The Hong Kong Academy of the Performing Arts for over two decades. She is also on the faculty of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has worked with many world-class musicians.

馮榕在2011年加入港樂前，曾出任香港小交響樂團首席低音大提琴、日本太平洋音樂節低音大提琴首席助理。熱愛音樂教育的她，於香港演藝學院教授音樂逾廿年，同時在香港中文大學任教，桃李滿門。馮榕曾與世界知名音樂家同台演出。
