Hailed as “a trailblazer for the authentic performance of High Classical chamber music” in Gramophone magazine, the Chiaroscuro Quartet performs music of the Classical and early Romantic periods on gut strings and with historical bows. The Quartet’s unique sound was described as “a shock to the ears of the best kind” (The Observer). In conversation with Prof. Daniel Chua (recorded in February 2022), two members of the Quartet shared their creative background, vision, and challenges as well as rewards of their unique way of music-making. While we look forward to welcoming the Quartet to perform for HKU MUSE in person when COVID-restrictions permit, we hope that this light-hearted discussion will serve as a personal introduction to this internationally acclaimed Quartet for the Hong Kong music lovers.
An accompanying playlist featuring the music discussed is available on Spotify.
