Israeli cellist Gavriel Lipkind is a laureate of both the Rostropovich and Leonard Rose International Cello Competitions, yet he stepped away from the public stage at the height of his career to focus on deeper musical study and reflection. His recording of the Bach Cello Suites—the fruits of his three-year retreat—was praised by his teacher, Uzi Wiesel, student of the legendary Pablo Casals, as "a unique, creative, imaginative, rich personal artistic expression of the world of Bach and the Baroque".

Lipkind distilled his profound insights into Bach's six suites for solo cello in this two-part concert series. The concerts were preceded by a 'Music in Words' dialogue with Prof. Daniel Chua, in which Lipkind shared his artistic heritage and connection to Casals, and delved into the philosophical underpinnings of Bach, as well as his own approach to music and performance.
